Need some advice...

I'm thinking about going to look at this truck http://grandrapids.craigslist.org/cto/2841816008.html to add to my fleet. I have never had a 4X4 and was wondering what to look for in one? I was just looking for an old Chevy for the winter here in Michigan and found this one with a plow...bonus if it's nice.

Re: Need some advice...

besides looking for rot in all the usual places you want to inspect the frame around the steering box. $x$s are notorious for cracking there.. its not devestating but it sure is a bargaining chip as its a pretty easy and common repair.. make sure the 4X4 works well in all settings

Re: Need some advice...

If this was a plow truck, it's probably pretty beat rusty and worn out. Kentucky is only a few hours away...

i use to live in MI and i would never buy a truck from there. that one was use mainly in the winter so it proble is not worththe money and the work it will take to fix for your first 4x4 you may want to look out side MI some where they dont use salt.

Re: Need some advice...

Thanks for the info guys! I went to Wisconsin for my crew that was a fresh import from Arizona and that has paid dividends! Maybe I will have to go south this time. I hate bringing something nice up here just to drive it in Michigan winters...maybe make something a two tone with bed liner on the bottom hmmm
