Re: Motor swap question
I dont think they were making chevy 307s in 84. You might have an oldsmobile 307 there, what is it coming out of?

Re: Motor swap question
Thats a decent motor, probably not any more power than your 6 though and im pretty sure it wont bolt to the trans you have unless its dual pattern. Theres a chevy trans bolt pattern and then a buick, olds, pontiac pattern. You might get a little more torque out of it, maybe mileage, and of course that v8 rumble that makes it all worth it.

Re: Motor swap question
I'd still go look at it. Maybe the guys wrong about what the motor is. You'll know right away just looking at it if its an olds or chevy. He could be worng about the year or the motor size. It could be a 305 or and earlier chevy 307. If this doesn't work out for you i'd look for a 350, a 305 probably wont get you any better mileage in these trucks. The best you can do is keep it tuned up and keep your foot out of it. A good quadrajet will probably get you the best mileage and have the power when you get on it. Its got primaries the size of quarters and huge secondaries.

Re: Motor swap question
a chevy will have more squared off valve covers and an olds are more rounded, the intake manifold is pretty wide on the olds as well. A dead giveaway is the distributor goes through the intake on a chevy and not on the olds.

Re: Motor swap question
Yeah you could go that way too. It's always good to have some recruitments so when things go wrong you can blame them.
