Pitman arm/steering box torque specs ?
Greetings,hope to get the correct torque specs on an 81'Chev 1/2 ton 2 wheel drive pu for the following:
-steering box to frame bolts -pitman arm nut at steering box -pitman arm nut at linkage -upper ball joint to spindle nut -lower ball joint to spindle nut -upper ball joint to a arm bolts -lower control arm ubolt nuts -control arm shaft bushing nut upper -control arm shaft bushing nut lower -control arm shaft upper to frame(through shims) -shock to lower control arm nut -shock to fame stud nut -cradle bolts/nuts to lower frame rail Thanks in advance ! |

Just compare the bolt sizes to a chart for standard bolts. That'll do fine. For stuff like the tie rods, tighten them until they feel tight, and move them further until the groove in the crown nut lines up with the hole.
Personally, I'd just do it like I do everything else. "Tight." "Really Tight." "I don't want that falling off!"

steering box to frame=65/85lbs. / pitman arm to shaft= 180lbs /pitman arm at linkage= 60lbs / ball-joint @ spindle=50-70lbs.(upper&lower) /upper ball-joint to a-arm=45lbs./lower control-arm u-bolts=85lbs /upper control arm shaft bushing nut =140lbs/ lower control arm shaft nut= 45-50lbs/upper control arm shaft to frame=70lbs /shock to frame stud=90-110lbs /shock to control arm = 65-75 lbs /lower cradle bolts to frame =90-95 lbs. hope this helps. Found it in my Haynes manual( #24064)
