1991 Crew Cab frame?

Ive hit a wall here guys. I am doing a 4wd to 2wd swap on my 1 ton ccswb project. After getting my 2wd front suspension and taking measurements Im not quite sure that I can do it properly. Has anyone done this with a 1 ton frame. Does anyone have a rustfree 1ton 2wd frame that they want to swap for a rustfree 1 ton 4wd frame that has been shortened. Thanks for any and all help. Chuck

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

That sucks, I just cut all my 2wd stuff off I would have done a trade. What are you unsure about? I can take some measurements based off the holes from the rivets if that would help. It's an 88 v3500 crew

Man I wish you were closer...
I have a 2wd and would love a 4x4.
But for mine, we used the rear half of a 1/2 ton frame, so that might not be what your after?

Re: 1991 Crew Cab frame?

I just did a 4 wheel to two wheel conversion on a buddy's truck. He had a two wheel drive with a rotten frame. He found a cheap 4x4 frame and we figured the 2 wheel front end would bolt on! Nope! We had to cut and drill every hole. It's doable with determination but it would be way easier to just get a 2 wheel frame.

Did you notice any of the differences that I mentioned above, and if so did it cause any problems? Thanks for the help!

There were lots of differences! Where the front crossmember mounts to the frame is shaped differently on the frame so we just used the 4x4 crossmember.

We had to cut and drill all the holes to mount the 2 wheel front end under the 4x4 frame. It was only a c10 frame though.

Luckily we had the 2 wheel drive frame for measurements otherwise we wouldn't have been able to do it. I Took reference measurements from just about everywhere and we think we've got it close. We checked the wheelbase a 1000 times lol. Hopefully it drives fairly straight.

I was able to just make a template with all the holes drawn on it to transfer over to the other frame that made life a lot easier. Still a lot of work I suggest a 2 wheel drive frame if possible!

Re: 1991 Crew Cab frame?

Was able to get past this test. I got some good measurements and was able to get my new holes drilled. Now once I get a couple small things done she'll be ready for paint. I'll be heading back to my build forum aka oldman now. Thanks for the help guys. Chuck
