Which parts to replace in front end
I am doing my first frame-off resto and am at the point to start putting the front end together. I have all the original stock parts which havent been changed since my 72 C10 was originally built. What parts should I replace? Here is what i plan on replacing.
ball joints U and L control arm bushings inner and outer tie rod ends control arm bumpers What else should I replace? pitman arm? idler arm? control arm shafts? The originals have the usual buildup and rust but nothing i can't clean up. any advice would be helpful. thanks

Re: Which parts to replace in front end
Hey there rubberbandit. I am doing the exact same thing with my truck. I will be replacing all the wearable parts in the front end. All of what you included plus idler, pitman, and control arm shafts. My original idler and pitman arm were not greasable. And after 40 years I figure its about due. If you plan on driving the truck on a regular basis I would recommend to do it all, and use quality parts such as moog, trw or raybestos.
Early Classic Enterprises has a package deal for our trucks for about $500 or so that includes everything. You could also source yours parts through rockauto.com for a little more savings as well. I will most likely use summit racing for my parts as they carry moog and are about 5 minutes from my work. I may also recommend new tie rod adjusting sleves and lower control arm shaft u-bolts as well for good measure. Happy rebuilding! |
