I picked up a 69 GMC
Yesterday I went and bought a 69 GMC. It has the typical outer floor rust and cab corners, but it also has some rust above the windshield inside. It was priced right though and has a GM Goodwrench 350 in it that the p.o. claims had only 10-12 thousand miles on it that runs great. The p.o. just had the carb rebuilt and had a tune up done to it. It also has factory coil spring rear with 3.73's. I drove it 30 miles home and it ran smooth and never missed a beat. I will probably just letter it with a fake speed shop like my 68 was and do a little pinstriping. I'm also looking at lowering it and putting some wide whites on it with painted steel wheels. It will be my GoodGuys cruiser and share daily driving duties with my 95.

Re: I picked up a 69 GMC
Hey congrats on the "new" purchase. Its lookin' pretty good.
Did you intentionally look for another 69? Can't wait to see what you do next to it. I loved the pinstripping you did on your last truck. Keith |

Heres a pic of the 69 I bought when I was 14. It was in pretty poor shape but it was all I could afford ($250) working one day a week washing dishes at my grandparents restaurant for many weeks, and it was mine.

Re: I picked up a 69 GMC
Funny you say that because I was just telling Ryan the other day how I've managed to miss every get together since I have been on this forum. I keep hearing things about ice cream and other goodies you make.

Re: I picked up a 69 GMC
I know they are night pics ( I'll take more when its daylight ) but I just got done putting on the 275/60's on the 8 inch truck rallys. I also painted the rallys black. They were kind of a light green. I still have to put the radiator in, put on the new intake, headers, flowmasters, rear springs, and letter and stripe it before Goodguys at the end of June. I better get a move on!

Re: I picked up a 69 GMC
Ok, I got the intake on it and the radiator in it. I also lettered my name above the door handle and aged it a little bit. I still have more to do and hopefully it will get done before Goodguys.

Re: I picked up a 69 GMC
I know a guy who has some good used ones. That would have to be better than using your finger.

Those good used ones would clash with the "piece of crap look that I'm aiming for"

Re: I picked up a 69 GMC
The truck had been down since the last day of Good Guys. While driving it home on that Sunday it started making a squealing noise and when I got home I found it to be the carrier bearing. I went and bought one from O'reilly's and then let the fight begin. I didn't know that parts that were married 43 years ago would be so stubborn to separate. My biggest problem was getting the yoke off of the rear of the front drive shaft so I could get the bearing off. I used a pulley puller to now avail. I soaked it in JB 80 and that didn't work. I put heat on it and when that wasn't working I kept it warm and used an air chisel with a blunt end on it to beat it out. After all of that it went back together smoothly.
My new concern is that at low speeds it squeaks still but is this because of the new rubber being a bit larger and the dust shields rubbing on it? Anyway I had a blast driving it to work today. I just love these old trucks!

Re: I picked up a 69 GMC
Nice looking GMC. Is it just me or do you like the looks a little better than a Chevy. Maybe cause it's just a little bit different. My dad had a small window 68 GMC with a 292 in it. Looks good.
