Converting 6 lug axles to 5 lug
Thinking I'm going to change everything over to 5 lug when I do my disc brake upgrade. Local machine shop will redrill the axles.
What brake drums did people use who did this conversion? Do the outside part of the axles need to be turned down to use the 5 lug drums? Can you reuse the original 6 lug brakes shoes / backing plates and associated hardware? Thanks.

Re: Converting 6 lug axles to 5 lug
You can buy rear kits that include all you need for the swap for about the same price as the fronts and convert to disk too.

In fact for the cost of the kit I can also add a front swaybar w/ new bushings, drop springs and new shocks. I’m not looking for rear discs. I’m pricing out all different options now. Looks like my best find is to find a donor truck. I also plan on a 700R4 swap. I’ll probably get the axles redrilled for 5 lug. Add in new bearings, new drums and it’s STILL cheaper than paying $190 (before shipping) for the 6 lug conversion drums.
