Re: junkyard transmission cooler
I'd be leery about a cooler from a vehicle I knew no history on. At least I'd flush it out really well. When an automatic goes bad it pumps metal all through the system. The heavier the vehicle the better the cooler.

Re: junkyard transmission cooler
I recommend a Tru-Cool LPD pressure drop cooler. Very similiar design to the OEM coolers of later model pickups, etc up to and including current vehicles. We use them on our the delivery vans we build that are equipped with a GM powertrain....http://www.transmissioncoolers.us/Me...ool-coolers-hd

Re: junkyard transmission cooler
How much extra trans cooler are you looking for?
My 89 Grand Marquis uses an auxiliary cooler that is a single pass (two pass? In and out on one side) ~foot long. Mounted on the drivers side, near the top, two screws, and convenient stub tube & hose easily unhooked from doner car. Found in fleet cars and trailer tow optioned 87-91 crown vics and grand marquis. Photo is shot pointing cam up from under the bumper on the car. (Hey, no grief about the ford parts, I also use AC Delco parts under the hood on the ford so it balances out). Later model cv-gm's used a stacked plate cooler with integrated thermostat (no photos of it) if that type floats yer boat... errr, cools yer fancy. =-) Alex. |

Re: junkyard transmission cooler
IF you get something from a junkyard take it to a radiator shop and have them boil it out so that you are assured that it is clean and usable
