Vintage Air Kit Arrived

My Vintage Air Kit for my 67 C10 arrived today. I'm looking forward to getting it installed next weekend or the weekend after. I also bought a Brother's Deluxe Disc brake conversion kit with front end rebuild parts. That should arrive this week.

Anyone installed either kit and have any tips? I plan on reading the directions like 10 times and then going for it...

I got my Vintage Air kit last week but it wont be installed anytime soon as the bodyshop has the truck off the frame in piles and pieces.

I got my boxes last week too! I started installing mine and I'm using a bulkhead fitting in the firewall for the heater hoses and freon lines. What a pain in the a$$. I've spent an additional $335.00 on steel braided lines and fittings and that is just on the evaporator side of things.

I ended up spending a good bit more too. I found out that my 3 row radiator and flex fan weren't enough to keep my 350, 700R, AND A/C cool, so I had to buy a new 4 row and added a factory 7 blade clutch fan. Everything was fine with my cooling system until I added the A/C (the 3 row radiator was only a couple years old.)

Which kit did you get, the Gen II or the Gen IV?

I put a Gen IV in mine a couple months ago, following the instructions everything went smooth for me, blowing nice cool air. converting the controls from cables is a little tricky but again the instructions proved good for me : ))

Only advice I have after installing my last year is to measure really well before you cut the hole in the core support. Oh and if you take the grill off its so much easier.

I got the Gen IV kit. I was hoping that the kit would include everything I need to install the unit? I thought it was engineered specifically for our trucks?

I started the install today. I don't really know how you could do it without taking off the grill (thanks for the advise), although the instructions didn't mention it unless I missed that. I got the condenser, drier, and compressor installed. I've also removed the old heater core and fan.

Next weekend I should get it wrapped up and ready to get charged, hopefully.

Don't recall if you said your truck was an original A/C truck or not?
If it was not, and you got the gen IV, you need to take the center vent and
corner vent's to your body guys along with pages 23 & 22 of the instruction manual that have templets for the above. There is some drilling and cutting
that needs to be done before paint on the dash.

Just finishing up my Vintage Air Gen IV hopefully in the next week or so.

I should finish tomorrow. Cutting the center vent was fun... I still have to wire it and install the evaporator and the final hoses. I already installed the hoses and brackets on the evaporator. Then I need to take it in to get charged.

I'm done. A little later than I hoped but I've been working a lot and it took about 20 trips to the parts/tool store.

Is it fine to drive it down to the shop to get it charged with everything hooked up?

On mine i disconected the compressor and the main power wire to the evaporator at the power block just in case, hooked it back up to get it vacumed and charged no problems. works great.

Looks like I'm running into the same problem now that my kit is intalled. I took the truck for a drive today and it was fairly hot. It started to run hot at low speeds with the A/C on...I guess I'll need to upgrade to a larger radiator. I have a Griffin now with an electric fan, but it must be their smaller size...bummer. One thing always leads to another when fixing up old trucks.
