Project MPS ll

i purchased this 1967 chev from the previous owner last spring for $2000, story was he purchased it from a guy who lost interest in it, he bought it and did some things but no longer had the time for it so now i come into the picture

he had put a brand new lowering kit in it front and back and i have no clue what height it is, it ran and drove the ppo apparently had the engine rebuilt, it seemed peppy and the steering was nice and tight, so my plans were and i say "were" to pull motor paint it, change gaskets, better cam, intake, carb etc and to sand all the bare spots the po owner had left as you will see, he figured because the truck wasnt in the elements the bare spots would be fine but it wasnt in a heated shop so not the case, but everything got way out of hand and off track

im rambling so here are some pics of the truck when i first got it, sorry for the poor pics i forgot to take pics before i pulled it in the garage

Re: Project MPS ll

well i cant figure out how to type inbetween the pictures, this truck was done judging by the interior sometime in the 80's im guessing the body is very solid, all the rust you see s from bare metal beng exposed it was stored in none heated storage so its just rust like you get from getting rain on bare metal

now onto some surprises i found, one of the previous owners had "shaved" the drip rails but as i soon found out, actually cut them by the windshield then bent into the door jamb and spot welded them and proceeded to use a rediculous amount of bondo, the drip rail above the windshield was filled with bondo and back about 4 inches on the roof as you can see in the photos in my first post and the ones in this post, not sure yet what to do about this mess

also they covered the whole side of the fenders close to the doors as you can also see in the pics and for what you say a big dent? nope, a rust hole? nope, all that bondo to hide the holes from where the fender emblem sat, i also will ost a pic of pass fender after i knocked the bondo off of it

Re: Project MPS ll

so with all this lovelt stuff going on i pulled my motor to freshen up the color and gaskets, change the cam etc and what do i find in my "rebuilt" engine? a litre of antifreeze GREAT! so now im paranoid and fearing the worst a cracked block

so i strip it right down to the bare block and take it in to have it checked out, all is good no cracked block, but theres a small chip right on the edge of the cylinder wall, so i get the deck machined on both sides, and got them to go over my crank while im at it, now im all set to go right?

nope caught a case of the "since its apart" bug, but i'll have more info of that further down the road this is all just a before so i can sort it all out in order

Re: Project MPS ll

Good luck with your build. Being the truck is lowered it will stand out better, any side shots.

Re: Project MPS ll

thats all the pics i have for now, its nothing special or will be anything high end when its done i do the best that i can with the money i have and with my disability

still a ways to yet but im hoping to be driving it by june, need to clean u the frame up front and paint it, put my shift kit in my trans, straighten out some po wiring issues, put engine and trans in, finish my fenders, find a grill, get some better rims and tires

the cab supports do have a lil bit of rt but nothing major, i do have new ones but not sure if i will get them done this year, i also need to get a pass inner fender and some bumpers i dont really want to use the weld in roll pan on the back i got with the truck

Don't delete your thread, your build looks great! Your doing some pretty awesome work, to bad about the messed up body work around the drip rail. I don't know about re-naming your thread, maybe one of the moderators can change it for you, just click on one of them then send them an instant message asking them if they can change the name. Anyway, good luck with your build!!!

Re: Project MPS ll

i cant remember off the top of my head im having a blonde moment ill get the info soon i have it written down somewhere but its a summit racing brand, it was pretty much the biggest i could use wth the heads im running, yea i got the bottom end redone, new rings bearings etc got the crank cleaned up and the pistons checked for warpage

the color is something different for sure but i like it so far, im hoping to have it sitting between the frame very soon, the cam needs to be broke in right away, something like 2000 rpm for 20 mins, theres a place two hrs away with an engine dyno i think i will take it to them and get them to break it in instead of pissing off my neighbours, plus i'll know what its making for hp and torque kill 2 birds wth one stone

I'm just wondering what the over all plan is? What kind of experience do you have in the body work arena? Definitely shoot some more pics (we all love the pics!!) You certainly seem like you know what your doing on the engine work, just curious about what color your going to paint the body, whether your doing the body work too or farming it out to a body shop, or perhaps you have some extra help, things like that. On my project I'm doing most of the body work myself, but my nephew is going to lay the paint. Can't wait to see more!

Re: Project MPS ll

iv got some experience with body work and paint, no experience with welding though.... yet, i did buy a mig but i hvent used it but im hoping to with this truck, most of my experience is dents with a hammer, dolly, torch and the usual bdy filler skills, just need to do some reading and practice on some scrap with my mig before i touch my truck, m not a perfectionist but i do believe if you arent going to do somethin right then dont do it at all

i am thinking i will leave those drip rails alone and get an experienced body man to fix them, but i will do my cab supports myself, thats the only part on my truck that is rotted, floors looked good from underneath, but who knows whats under the carpet, and one patch on the pass box panel as you can see in the pictures

color wise i have thought about black but we all know tricky black is, i am partial to blue as its my fav colour and i also like the blue inside the cab, now iv also thought about if i want to go a two tone like the cst or one solid colour or possibly a flame job, im undecided on that so far but ppaint is still another yr or 2 away for me

my "main" goal for now is get it put back together and in primer so i can drive it this summer, but i need to track down a few arts and order a few things yet, long term goals are paint and possibly making it a short box and maybe some day even convert it to an ls motor etc etc etc you know the usual pipe dreams lol i will try and get some pics of that col on here tomorrow
