Sweet deal! It's crazy what people don't know when they sell things. Makes me wonder what they paid for it?

Is this an original unpainted tailgate? I ask because I've often wiondered if the inside screws that hold the latch in place were body color or galvanized from the factory.I see these screws on your tailgate are body color and the tailgate looks real original to me.

Re: Look what I scored!

This antiques store just opened up a week ago. The people who own it are not car or truck people I would guess. They do have a few auto parts - mirrors, hubcaps, a couple dashboards (one out of a Hudson Hornet!), and this tailgate, which the guy asked me what year truck it fit. He said he got it from a guy that had it in his barn, took it off when the truck was new to put on a camper. It looks original to me. It is heavy, I can tell you that. I feel kinda bad, I'm sure he didn't know what he had. Is there a sure way to tell if its original?

Re: Look what I scored!

You said it's heavy, and that's the first clue it's an original.

Re: Look what I scored!

That is really cool. You did get a great deal. I would have a hard time putting that on a truck. I would be very tempted to hang it on my wall.
