Would it be ok?

The tires that are on the truck are not the best and I have just kept them on to get it from the shop. Well one of the rear tires will not hold air anymore and I cannot find a used 255/70/15 anywhere in town, since in a week I will be replacing all 4 with brand new 255/70/15. Closes used tire I can find is a 275/60/15. My question is would it be ok to just use that to get it back from the shop, it's about 15 miles away? Would it hurt anything or be fine for the time being?

Re: Would it be ok?

Just put the matching pair on back and run the odd one up front. You should be fine.

Re: Would it be ok?

Yes it could potentially mess up your rear end with your rear axles trying to turn at two different speeds.

Re: Would it be ok?

K, that is what I was thinking. I have never had a hard time finding a place to get a matching used tire. 255/70/15 must be a used weird tire around here. Can't wait for the new ones. Thanks for all the information guys.

Re: Would it be ok?

yep -I think you'd be ok for either the odd ball front or back. 275-60-15 and 255-70-15 are approx the same diameter (but might want to messure just to make sure), that's all the rear end cares about. If they were more than about a 1/2-1" difference in dia, then I'd put the oddball on the front for the reason 72 K5 mentioned. Ok for SHORT term only I believe. Different widths (or diameters) will affect handling if they're on the front, but probably ok for short term and shouldn't damage any hard parts on the front end.... Assuming you can't take your leaker to the tire shop to get it plugged?? Anyway, should be ok, front oddball probably a better bet than rear. Drive slow, be careful, all that motherhood...

Re: Would it be ok?

Oh yeah, I will be driving slow and careful, like stated before these tires suck anyways. No I couldn't take the tire in to get it plugged it was in to bad of shape and old. Since my truck has posi it would be more at risk for damage right?

Re: Would it be ok?

Put the odd one on the front if you like your Posi.

My buddy found me a 265/70/15 this morning so I will be putting that on and will feel a lot better about driving it
