Long shot question...

I have a 72 Jimmy with a new Rancho 6" lift (front springs / rear blocks). It has brand new 35x12.5x15 Maxxis Big Horns on rock crusher alloys with a matching spare. For me, with little kids, its just TOO TALL and I'd rather go back to something closer to stock. Is there anyone in the Oregon / Idaho area that has a stock setup, or maybe up to a 4" lift setup that would want to just trade? I'd like to make it a little easier for the kids and wife to climb in and out of. I know this is a long shot, but I figured I'd test the waters just in case.

Not to rub salt in the wound Tomahawk but just a week ago I traded all my stock suspension for a 6" set up from a suburban here in Stayton, Oregon, dont give up someone will chime in and trade you, or go with some steps or Amp hidden running boards

I have my stock front springs, but used blocks in the rear so, I'm still using the stock springs in the rear. You are welcome to the front springs of you want to come get 'em...I am near Salem.

Cool, thanks guys. I'll take you up on that Bill! I appreciate the offer Amity, but I get over Boise direction a lot more than I get out your way. I still have my stock rear springs (that are sadly sagging) with the 6" blocks, so I just really need the stock front springs. Question... I know my driveline was extended when he did the 6" lift. Is that going to mess me up if I want to drop it back down? I'm sure I'd be fine to drop a few inches, but not sure about the whole 6". Might have to drop it this weekend with the nice weather and mock something up to see where that would put the driveline. Can't really drop it back down yet anyway until I have some different tires (and probably wheels).

I did see that listing on Craigslist too. I don't think that's a bad price, but I'm trying not to spend much on the Jimmy right now. I have a 70 C10 that I'm trying to finish up first. THEN I'll spend money on the Jimmy! Don't tell my wife. And I don't mind the steps, but I drive on the highway to work way more than I drive it offroad. Kinda rides like a tank on the highway

My guess is that the driveline will be a problem, I can't see how you could go back down to stock with it extended.

That's my guess as well. I may just start accumulating parts until I have everything I need. Either that or I'll save up and buy a 2" lift (front and rear springs if I'm going to buy one) and sell mine for what I can get to offset part of the cost. Or just sell it and buy one that isn't lifted!

No problem, just let me know when you're headed down. I rearched the stock springs and ran 33's on my old blazer. Just an option to get you by till you're ready to toss money at that thing.

Afraid so. I know when you improperly lower a truck with blocks, it eventually tears up your transmission by putting pressure on your tail shaft. In your case, assuming you're able to fit everything back together, your transfer case will likely fail, possibly your rearend. Whichever is the weaker link. I don't know where the limit is, you'd probably be ok going down to a 4" lift, but don't take my word for it.

I'm in no hurry. I'm not going to tear anything apart going into summer. I want to pull the top off and enjoy the sun! Might just start gathering parts and work on it this winter. Or, like I said, sell it and buy one that is closer to what I'm wanting. I get plenty of offers!

I know, I kick myself for selling it. It really hurt when I saw it on e-bay and the new owner just trashed it. Pickup has been on hold with all the other home projects. Getting the Camaro in this weekend for the summer tune up and then I’ll be back on the truck, starting on patch panels then off to the blasters.
