power steering gear box
My power steering gear box has developed a leak where the steering shaft enters the gear box. Is this seal and/or bearing replaceable? Isn't there a shade tree mechanic trick to stop these types of leaks with I believe tranny fluid?

You will probably need to replace the seal because of the pressure in the box. Seals are available through NAPA and other suppliers. It is not too bad of a job with the box off.

Thanks Jim I did not know if the seals were obtainable or replaceable.

Go ahead and buy the GM overhaul manual. It shows how to rebuild differentials, transmissions, steering boxes, and AC compressors. All of the things that are NOT in other books. I have 2, a 68 model year and a 72 model year. Best books I own...
