Different U-bolts? The U-bolt for the hosuing on the Dana 44 front has one bolt on the passenger side that is longer that wraps around the side of the housing. So you're saying you just need longer U-bolts?

I think you just need new u bolts. I have a 44 under my 69 and I am putting a HD dana 44 under it this week, (converting to 3/4 ton.) Anyway, the spring pad on the passenger side is part of the pumkin housing and you just need the u bolts for it. I wil try to get a pic

Ok here are some pics of the spring pad. This a 44 out of a 76 3/4 ton.
The last pic shows the bottom of the axle tube next to the pumpkin that has the groove for the ubolt. the 1st pic is the pad looking down from the top. the 2nd and 3rd have the u bolt in place. Hope this helps Erik

Re: 1975 Front Axle under 1969 frame no Go?
the leaf spring seamed to be closer on the 69 frame so i moved the mounts on the axles to match, but the pumkin housing and bolts are in the way, i put a groove into the pumkin housing to support the new location and then noticed that two bolts on the cover where going to be in the way of the u bolts, from the first photo you can see that the bigger u bolt goes about half way into the two bolts on the cover, so i'am at a loss

The 1/2 ton (6 Lug) D44 and the 3/4 ton (8 lug) D44 were supposed to use the same axle assembly. It's just the hub, rotor and spindle thats different. There are spindles that use a small or larger bearing. Not sure what year that changed...

Yeap bigger axle housings need bigger U bolts most of the time. Anyhow it is a good idea to use new ones. And use never seze on them for lube.
