Heater Control Question....

Can the heater controls from an A/C truck be used on a non-A/C truck? ('70 stepper). Which cables would I need? I know the switch is different , but I can handle extending the wiring. I really like the separate switch and mine has finally fallen apart.

Anything is possible...you need the floor to def cable and the heat on off cable. And the switch

Not sure what you're after here ;

The NON AC heater control is dead simple to take apart , clean , polish and lubricate , open up the old fan switch and clean it out , hand polish the copper contacts with brass polish until the shine , lube it with Dielectric Grease then re assemble the whole thing using spare levers from other dead heater controls .

I'm not sure how you ruined the cables , if they're frozen just lube them with penetrating oil using a Moto Cycle cable oiler to fee 'em up like new .

If you're anywhere near Los Angeles (land of fruits , nut and flakes) I have some spare cables I'll give you ~ bast model, NON AC .

As a long time old car ' enthusiast ' (MEANS : nut) , I've been watching good parts go in the scrap bin my whole life , I hate it and it makes me crazy ~ I always have some old parts lying 'round I'll sell ridiculously cheaply or give away just so I don't have to toss 'em out .

Besides , you're a good buncha folks , helpful and all , one hand washes the other in my book .

Try to use the OEM cables at all cost. The after market cable suck donkey $&@. You will be sorry and soon you'll be looking in the classifieds for OEM cables.

O.K. . . . .
Based on the evidence, I need to re-lube the dragging cables and rebuild the controls. I do however, like the idea of being able to see the switch on the panel. Now, are all the "rebuild kits" the same, or are some better than others. I don't want to have to do it but once. Are the new levers stamped steel or cast?

O.K. , now I get it ~ you want to use the AC control .

Some of the new levers are steel , if you don't take the time to loosen up and lubricate the plenum doors and cables , you'll bend them just as the old pot metal lever snapped when forced .

The other way to do this and get the same oe look is to use a non ad control from a 65-66 caprice/impala. It's is a bolt in and ll you have to do is change the orientation of the bell crank to operate one of the flapper doors if I recall. Haven't seen much posted about the mod the past few years, but I am planning ton doing it for my next driver. I a all about factory light up stuff in the dash I guess .
