window cranks 1971
Was there a set position that gm installed the window cranks on trucks. Like when the window was up was the knob at 12, 3, 6 or 9 o'clock position?

Re: window cranks 1971
I like to install them pointing away from the door hinge. 9 o'clock for driver side and 3 o'clock for passenger side. #1 It fills out the space on the door panel there. #2 The weight of the handle tends to keep the window up in the closed position. I read that somewhere a long time ago and it made sense to me.

Re: window cranks 1971
I wondered the same thing. I couldn't find the answer. So, I started looking at pictures of "original" trucks. Every one of them has the window crank and door handle pointing toward the front (when the window is closed). So, that is how I did mine.

Re: window cranks 1971
As I recall mine were at about 1:30 on the driver's side and 10:30 on the passenger's side when the truck was new. About 45 degrees up and to the front. That's where I've kept them.

I have the billet handles & cranks I elected to have them at the same angle as the door handles when the window is down for the fact that my windows are down at car shows & cruise night. |

Re: window cranks 1971
I do this with all my crank window vehicles. Close the window and set the crank so it does not bother my knee, then roll the window all the way down and see if the window crank will be into my knee again......then adjust accordingly.

Re: window cranks 1971
I knew somebody that got their leg screwed up in a accident by the handle
It was facing rear ward the round part broke off when he hit it and the shaft portion really got him good in the leg. since then I allways try to face the handle forward open or close cause that was ugly
