how do you guys find stuff on Craigs List

I have tried looking for parts on Craigs List, but no success to date, can anyone offer me search tips

I usually search 1960, 1961, 1962...then 60, 61, 62. I search c10, c20, chevy truck, truck. Stuff like that. You can also use Searchtempest.com for regional searches.

In the search box I use "Parting Out Chevy" or "Parting Out GMC" and in the box below it I leave it on the default "For Sale" section.....it will give you all models but it is the most complete search...You kind of have to know what you want in advance and just keep an eye out for the right situation...

Smart search on the main page in the (for sale) section with the key words like (chevy parts, c10, 60 chevy trucks) and so on you get the point.

I also use searchtempest.com an, according to my wife, spend way too much time dreaming and drooling at all the trucks on craigslist...

What ever your looking for then site:craigslist.org Which ever words are in front of site will show everything in craigslist listings in the States and Canada.
Example I'll Google:

1963 Chevrolet truck site:craigslist.org

Then I cringe as I go through all the listings knowing their to far away to go see. I have however had great luck with the sellers willing to ship, or with luck, finding a member from this forum to act as a go between. Thank you all for the help you've provided, over the years.

Use several search terms and for large parts which shipping would be rediculous on I narrow results by region and area, I.E. Northern California

yep spend hours on my phone searching craigs with in couple hours drive. buy and sell on it at least once a day to every otherday. mad more doing that latly than my day job!!!

I've got an app on my Iphone called CraigsPro+ and it's definitely the easiest way I've found to search craigslist. It also can save searches, and notify you when any new post match your search (kills the phone battery though). You can set it to search within a determined radius, and there are picture previews for the ads. Theres also a feature where you can double tap the ad to hide it, so you can hide the repetitive ads, or ones you aren't interested in. That feature also keeps the ad from coming back up when the ad is renewed. For keywords, I like to use the mispelled versions, and fairly general terms to cover more ads. It helps to also use both "1965" and "65", and "Chevy/Chevrolet" since most ads don't use both in the same ad.

if you put it like that CL treats it like (and/or) and will return any result with any of those numbers, great if you just want to limit your search to period vehicles etc.

Well, a sincere thank you to all who have posted.

I guess the biggest part of my issue is my location. Just by the difference in population (Canada 30 million, US 300 million), there is correspondingly less availability of parts. That, and with our winters, and the salt we use on the roads, there just isn't much left in the way of parts vehicles.

Our retail prices up here are brutal as well. I want to pick up some Monroe Sensa Trac front shocks. Under $40 anywhere I look in the US, $80 (with my discount ) up here. I will be in Pitt PA this weekend plan to pay a visit to Advance Auto Parts in Grove City, pick up those shocks, see what else they have that might interest me.

I use http://www.statewidelist.com/Index.cfm to search by state. Pick a state and then just put in a year or C10 or Tailgate or whatever.

100% fool proof plan here, hear me out.

Say you want a new intake manifold for a small block chevy, go ahead and buy a brand new one and just leave it in the box. Go on your local craigslist and type in "intake manifold" and it will bring up at least ten that were not on craigslist the day before. Buy one and return the new one.

I just type in CHEVY. Any and all things chevy related pop up. Also use C10 sometimes.

Sometime i'll put ad in wtb chevy parts then i go thur the emails and pick the ones i want to call on .
