Brake booster hard line

The truck I am working on has a hard line from the carb going into a black canister which feeds into the rubber hose to the brake booster. What does the can do? Can I run rubber hose from the back of the carb straight to the brake booster? I've seen it on plenty of vehicles I am unsure of the significance of the black canister deal. Thanks

Re: Brake booster hard line

I'm not 100% certain, but I believe those little black canisters are designed to trap gas fumes that evaporate from the carb when the engine is not running. Very similar to the larger vapor canisters that are used to store fumes that evaporate from the gas tank vent line.

The idea is to keep the gas fumes from entering the brake booster and attacking the rubber diaphragm inside. Normally, the check valve (where the rubber line hooks to the booster) would prevent that from happening, but I can see where a slight leak in that check valve could allow the vacuum stored inside the booster to draw gas fumes in through the intake/carb when the engine isn't running.

Hahahahahahahahahh!!!!!!!
Someone replaced the motor and did not lable the connections!! Ahahahah

That can is used to store excess fuel vapors, then the car starts it sucks them up and burns them.

The vac from the brakes needs to go DIRECTALLY to manifold vaccum,

The can: if sitting in drivers seat, right hose goes to carb, left side goes to fuel tank.

Thats just a mess in ur truck, maybe someone can take a pic fOr u, mine is changed and will not help you.

What i can say is if its a sbc or bbc the above is correct, if diesel ignore the above because idk a thing about the sbc350diesels

No, I don't think his truck has the connections to the brake booster & vapor canister crossed up.

Instead, I believe he's talking about this small canister that's hooked to the brake booster:

As I stated in my earlier post, that little canister functions pretty much like the larger one that stores vapors from the tank. But instead of being for emissions purposes, it's there to keep gas fumes from potentially getting into the booster if the check valve were to leak by a little.

Re: Brake booster hard line

You the man ray. I should have explained myself better. I want to delete the hard line because it goes through the old throttle bracket that I am replacing. Mrknowitall you are kind of an ass for laughing at me but thanks for trying to help. You were right though, I didnt label anything. I tore it all out in a drunken rage knowing they were great guys on the forum like you and ray to help me out.
