help building a trailer

6 months ago I got a 1967 2wd longbed for parts. I cut the frame and kept the rear half. I have a 1972 short bed box I have been trying to sell, but no one wants. So I decided to build another trailer.

My question is, will the short bed box work on the longbed frame? Will the mounting areas line up? I have been thinking about doing this for a few months but have not had the time to get out and look to see if it will work.

I am assuming that the front mounts will not work due to the long bed, but i'm not to sure. But the rear mounting holes should line up right?

Any help or idea's would be great :p

I think everything lines up, you will just have to shorten the fram in the rear about 8". If not the mounts are easy to move.

BTW, I would like to have your bed, it is just to far and they are cheap in north Texas.

Yes a shortbed will fit a long bed frame. You will have to cut about 3 or so inches off the rear of the frame. Pm me if you have more questions.

I took a long bed frame and put on a stepside bed.

All the other mounts for the bed will work? What I mean is the holes the bed mounts to the frame.

I want to make a trailer too but I was wondering what you need to do to get them licensed in WA. Chaptr2, do you know?

I want to take the rear lift blocks off my truck, get new springs for the truck and put the blocks on a trailer so it will be the same height. I saw a later model Blazer just the other day that had a matching trailer!

The frames are the same with added metal in the middle and some in the rear (2 or 3 inches). You will cut off the rear with a reciprocating saw and you could use the middle section like I did (with the aluminum box). Basically put your bed on the rear part of the frame and it will match up perfectly. You will only have to move the bed around to make the bolt holes match up.

All you need is a reciprocating saw, a welder, and a good angle grinder.

I bought my trailer with a long bed on it and I wanted to use a short bed. The tongue was already welded in place, which is why I put the aluminum box on. It was to use up the extra space that was left over from the long bed removal.

Bouncytruck I had to get it inspected from the Washington State patrol. You need to have a title to the frame that you are cutting up or using. You will have to show either ownership of the frame or bill of sale for the frame. I had a bill of sale that said it was a truck so I had to explain the officer that I bought it from the guy already cut and welded. It will take almost an hour for inspection and paper work.

You will also need a certified weight from a Washington State approved scale. Call you local DMV and they will tell you exactly what you need. Just call it a home built trailer so they don’t get confused.
