Radio delete cover/insert?

I got my 74 stepside last year. Picked away at it ie cleaned, fix wiring etc.. The po that I bought it from HACKED the crap out the the dash and bezel to install a radio.

This was a complete factory stripped down model from Canada. It came with no radio or dome lights.

I was at another members house the other day and showed me a radio delete insert that goes over the radio section. I had just thought that it was a complete bezel that just didnt have the openning for the radio.

Anyone have any pics of it? Know where I can get/find one? Thanks

Re: Radio delete cover/insert?

Nope - it's a separate block off plate that covers just the area where the radio would go.

I know there's one on the shelves at Dad's house but it might be a while before I get back up there and can take a pic.

Re: Radio delete cover/insert?

Are you planning on restoring the truck to stock condition? If not, and you plan a radio/receiver, you can get a used bezel to cover up the hole. I just reinstalled my Alpine in a big hacked hole in my dash and used a metal frame which covers the hole and has a cutout for a single din receiver. You then put a black cover plate behind the front edge of the radio metal cage and that covers everything up. You might be able to use your existing bezel. I think Crutchfield often has a sale to include all of the installation components for free when you buy the receiver (I got a basic Alpine with the installation accessories for about $100.)
I had a 76 Scottsdale C20 with the factory cover plate - I think it had a big clip on the back attached to a threaded stud on the back side of the plate - you screwed the clip until it was tight against the dash.

I think I am going to keep it stock, no restoration plans now until my 75 gets completed. The 250 w/3speed floor shifter is fun to drive! The window has no antenna and there are no speakers in the truck.

I found a stock 75 radio to fill the hole until I find one of these. Im hoping these things arent difficult to find. But Ive never seen one until yesterday!

Do you know where I might buy a stock cover? Thanks

Re: Radio delete cover/insert?

I have one. Do you have a picture of the dash bezel texture? I know of two types. One looks like a leather grain (wrinkled) and the other is a like a mesh look kinda like a tight screen door pattern. Let me know, i only need the one installed in my truck which is the leather wrinkled look one.

Re: Radio delete cover/insert?

Without checking my records I think there was also an option for a "radio delete" for regular production trucks as well.

Re: Radio delete cover/insert?

I seen one on ebay for $100. It looks like the same one with a chip in the corner unless that is part of the design - never seen one in person. Eitherway, it's a little pricey.

Check it out:

Re: Radio delete cover/insert?

$100 is way too expensive. I had found one on eBay yesterday for $35.00 and it was n.o.s in the box. The one you found is the incorrect texture. There are 2 or 3 different kinds. It's a nice item minus the odd chip in the corner. Keep up the hunt!
