P30 steering box on a C60

just as the title states anyone tried this? I read on the big bolt site that the boxes were similar in the way that they operate and mount just thinking about putting power steering on "blue bob" then I could use the hydroboost. Thanks for looking and helping. Jim

Re: P30 steering box on a C60

the c30 str box is the same as the c10 box(light duty trucks) which may be light for the c60 frt end. I would check out what the medium duty trucks used for p/s boxes. they used larger ones for a reason

Re: P30 steering box on a C60

The question is will a P30 box fit aC60 . I know that the C box from the 10-20-30 would not work. The P30 is a different truck /chasis all together

Re: P30 steering box on a C60

P30 has a rating more than a one ton. It shares some of the similaritys of the HD 3500 but the steering box is mounted similar to that of a C40-50-60 truck

Re: P30 steering box on a C60

if you know, why ask and argue. P30 is a one ton. a c60 is larger. why not find a newer c60 and check out the str box. if the strg box is of similiar rating or proportions go for it. I imagine that frt axles in c60's can go to 12,000 lbs

Re: P30 steering box on a C60

I did stop and look at a s/a c/o this morning. should have similiar strg in it. think that it is going to the scrappers pretty soon and did look at the guage panel before. all a/c guages, tach only went to 4000 though. it did have a 427 in it . must be a tall block though,
will be going by again within a couple of days . will stop and take a pic of the str box

Re: P30 steering box on a C60

I'm not sure if it is a P30 chassis, it is a P-series though. Anyway, on the motorhomes that have the heavier duty 10 lug wheels, the steering assembly has a bellcrank in which the steering box turns the opposite direction. Just something to look out for. Otherwise I don't know if the P30 steering box will work on your C60. I would have to agree that a steering box from a later model C50-70 may be a better choice. But I do realize those may not be that easy to find in some areas.

Re: P30 steering box on a C60

I was just thinking of that motor home cause it is just sitting out by the shop not being used. I was gonna used the stuff off of it on my 70 projct big dually but it is stuck in park so to speak. It was to be a C60 fleetside 454T400 tilt under dash air and few other goodies but oh well
