Rear disc brake kits
Just got another 12 bolt rear end (72 4x4) and it has drum brakes on it and I was wondering who makes a kit to convert it to disc on the back.
When I rebuild this I would like to just have it all done before I install it into the truck, all new seals, locker and want the disc for it as well. I f the disc kit is to much does anyone know about a complete drum rebuild kit that might be out there. ? I did search but did not find the answer i was looking for iam sure its there somewhere i just did not have any luck..lol thanks for any help Last edited by 69GWC; 06-16-2012 at 08:59 PM. |

Hey Garret, I'm using the Blackbird kit on the green 68 4X4 you saw beside my shop. Did the swap about 6 years ago and havent had any problems with them. Only thing I dont care for about Blackbirds is they wont tell you what rotors and calipers they use..I know there off the shelf parts but they want you to come back to them for replacements...I'm sure a good parts counter guy could probably figure it out tho.

Hey thanks for the info, still trying to decide if I can spend the extra on this or not I just bought a skyjacker lift kit a locker and a few other things as well.

Depends on how big of a tire you run and is it a street truck or a real off road truck.If its a street truck keep the drums if its a off road truck rear disc are nice.

Going with 33s and its pretty much a street truck, one thing I will be pulling a trailer with it and why I was thinking of going to disc on the rear.
But I think I will just rebuild the drums its over half the money less and I just spent a ton on a lift kit and locker/rebuild kit for the rear end. Posted via Mobile Device |

Only bad thing i can say about rear disc is they wear out faster then drums so in up keep it can add up.
