Saw a GMC 350 'toter today

and I need a history lesson.
I USED to have a "first series" 55 chevy the one that looked like a 54 but was built in 55 and came with a pressure oil system.... anyway, I used to know the cut off date for turn down vs push button Door handles at least for the chevies. Ok now I need to know some date specific features of the older GMC's as I saw a Very short wheel based Dually that was a mobile home toter "back in the day" it was WAY cool and I am trying to decide how bad I want it.
I was at the house picking up something else and was very busy so did not get a good look at it as it was in the back 40 and pretty covered with stuff, but it did have turn down door handles ... a 350 (series) emblem on the hood and it is available.

What engine should this thing have in it ? anyone familiar with the heavy GMC's

No one can step in and tell me how to identify the year on a GMC truck? or give me an idea which engines were used on the larger trucks?
I am going to guess it is a 270 or ( fingers crossed) a 302 as I think the 426 and 503 only came on the heavier series trucks.

Thank you for the reply, I have been to the old truck site and answered a few of my own questions, and the link to this site seems to deal with all COE's ( not that the year thing will be much differant) I only wish this one was a COE.
I will keep researching, and as soon as I have some room cleaned out, I will go pick this one up, and report back what it is I have found.

Having ridden in a few running empty, those toters or shack shakers are probably the roughest riding truck you will ever ride in or drive.
It wouldn't be hard to build you own though as most of them had shortened frames.

By the way the 350-24 conventional trucks had a 248 c.i. 6 and 4sp as standard equipment.

Still don't know what year or what equipment it has in it, but I contacted the owner and agreed to buy it. I guess as soon as I figure how to hide it from the old lady and can pick it up I will know more.

Was busy at work today and such, never had a tv on, didn't hear anything about a Quake.must not have been any Damage or injury as I may have been called out for that.

Turn down handles were used from 47-51, same as Chevy. 51 is the easiest to identify because of the turn down handles and wind vents. 50 and earlier had one piece door glass.
