shortening the steering column

After reading the FAQs about this, can this be done to a column shift truck? A 3ott to be specific. If I have to install a floor shift I can. But can I still shorten the column? Im over 6 ft tall but prolly 7ft around the middle. My bathroom scales wont give a number, just this, one at a time, please. Thanks in advance. Muley

Re: shortening the steering column

I found this tilt colum in a van/rv it was a dash shifted rv. there for it has no shift leaver at the bottom or top it is 4" shorter than a truck colum witch should eliminate the shaft space between the colum cup and dash.I got it because I'm pretty tall.

Re: shortening the steering column

Hey guys, My truck is still a 3ott manual trans. My plans for later on are for a 5 speed but I still would like to move the steering column closer to the dash. The column shifter on my truck is in pretty good shape. I even have a hurst 3sp floor shifter,Im just not wanting to install it yet. The procedure from the FAQs show an auto column and collapsing the shaft.I just dont know if this will work on a 3ott.
Seems like it will put the linkage in a bind.Any ideas? Muley
