Towing with a C10 short

I am wanting to buy a C10 short bed to pull my brothers 22 foot
pontoon boat. Will the truck handle the pontoon or am I asking for
trouble. We would be taking some 200-300 mile trips.

Re: Towing with a C10 short

how heavy the boat and trailer?
you can always add electric brakes to the trailer..

Re: Towing with a C10 short

Pontoons are generally pretty light unless its one of those super loaded models. I second on the electric brakes.

Re: Towing with a C10 short

The only problem I have encountered with pontoons is that they have a very large surface area and on a windy day can kinda sway around. On a longer truck it isn't usually a problem but on something as short as a single cab 2wd it might be more of an issue. I'm not saying your truck couldn't handle it, but it's something to keep in mind.

Re: Towing with a C10 short

I towed a 25-ft travel trailer with a '76 Blazer. It's shorter than a SWB C-10 and it did great. So, I don't necessarily buy the long vs short WB as the main factor. If the trailer is prone to sway, put an anti-sway bar on and use it. Big trucks passing by will suck your towed item toward it. The sway bar is a friction device and it will help a bunch.

My '69 was used to tow a 26-ft travel trailer before I bought it. It had an electric brake controller on it, for the trailer.

You won't know how it reacts until you hook it up and hit the road.

Re: Towing with a C10 short

I don't think you will have a problem with it handling a pontoon. Boat trailers use hydraulic surge brakes. Electric brakes don't work out too well when immersed.
