Aftermarket Dash

Has anyone ever ordered the padded dash from classicindustries that goes for $299.00 ?? Its suposed to be vinyl over foam over steel. I received mine today and it looks like rubber sprayed over thin metal. It has a piece of wood screwed to it to hold it straight. It's warped and rubbery. I'm thinking they sent me the uerathane one by mistake. Any input would be appreciated.

Very disappointed.

Re: Aftermarket Dash

I did the same thing. Didn't fit very well at all and its already cracked around the screw holes that are above the glove box. Its not even a year old and has been garaged

Re: Aftermarket Dash

So I got the dash home... Unpacked it, took the piece of wood off and it flopped like a linguini...I would say they sent me the wrong dash.

Re: Aftermarket Dash

Hey guys just ordered a dash from classic chevy. They are based out of fremont, CA but they get their dashes from DashesDirect out in Las Vegas and they fit perfectly! Honestly i was looking everywhere for NOS dashes and this is the same quality if not better. It already comes in the color you want, foam with the vinyl wrap, fits perfect and best of all its not made overseas. MADE IN AMERICA Call Bill from vintage chevy at 510-651-5874.

Re: Aftermarket Dash

Never used their website, didnt know they had one. Anyways vintage chevy charged me 345.00 for the dash plus shipping and handling which isnt bad at all considering it was shipped from las vegas alllllll the way to viginia beach virginia. I would look into it they make a quality product. NOS of course would be the best way to go (400.00 or more) but they come in gray then you have to dye it and that just gets messy and isnt worth the time at least thats my opinion.

Re: Aftermarket Dash

I hope to find out on Monday. It's suposed to be OEM. This thing is a piece of rubber. I'm hoping that they mislabeled this.

No its not a mis-label, they are purposely labeling them wrong to try to sell them. I bought mine on eBay. Ebay was so POed that ebay refunded my complete amount AND gave me the money to ship back to the seller.

This is the POS I bought...

thepartsplaceinc

http://www.ebay.com/itm/81-87-CHEVY-...item3f17eea940

"IT IS A GM RESTORATION PART AND IS A REPRODUCTION LICENSED BY GM."

Yea right!

I have already deleted the pictures, but the one I got wasn't flat for 2 inches in any given place. It wouldn't even to begin to fit. I told eBay and the seller I wouldn't even put that pile of crap in an old farm truck!

Re: Aftermarket Dash

The Dashes Direct Dashs are made using two different types of material. The 1981-up style is black vinyl only. The 1973 - 1980 are made using urethane and are much less stiff. Dashes Direct are working on the older dashes in vinyl and should have them in 6-8 months. I'd hold off until then if I wanted a new dash, I know I will for my 78.

If it ain't broke, there is still probably room for improvement.

Re: Aftermarket Dash

I ordered the black vinyl..they sent the urethane..still waiting to here back from them since Friday..Starting to get really po'd.

If your thinking of buying the urathane to save $80.00 don't do it. It's a real POS.

According to Dashes Direct, they don't make a 1973-80 in vinyl yet. They're just working on it. 6-8 months down the line is what they said. The one they make for the 1981-up are the ones made from vinyl.

No, it was all metal as far as I could tell. You obviously need to do some trimming but that's normal.
