Motor sits crooked!
Ok i was trying to install my new crossmember and the passenger side of my motor sits about a half an inch lower then the driver side. How is this possible. I am using stock rubber mounts with dirtydingo adjustable addapters. Never noticed this tell now. Any ideas? Motor has been in over a year.

Re: Motor sits crooked!
Is there any adjustablility in the mounts that can help you correct it?
Any chance your frame was tweaked or unlevel before the install? With bolt in mounts it really isn't an issue, but IF someone where to install an engine with weld in mounts, and only level off the top of the engine (not checking for level on the frame or checking that the floor is level), its possible the engine could end up sitting crooked....not sure if that makes sense or not. I.e if you installed the engine level on a non-level garage floor, when you get to a level surface it could sit crooked. IIRC the dingo mounts are bolt in, right?

Re: Motor sits crooked!
If you never noticed it until now, and it isn't hitting on something, I would leave it. It's not going to hurt anything and odds are no one else will notice it either. But if it bothers you, you could always shim one side up. Are your stock rubber mounts new?

Re: Motor sits crooked!
The plates i used only have front and back adjustability not up and down. I installed the rubber parts about 6-8 months befor the motor so maybe a year and a half old. It only bothers me cause my crossmember hits the low side. I think if it was level it would not hit. I have two options for that fix lean or cut new crossmember. The crossmember is not a big deal i know a guy that will help me with that but if there is something wrong with my frame/mounts i would like to figure it out. I will get some measurements this week end.

Re: Motor sits crooked!
Well i took a look at my mounts today and i think i figured out what is going on. The rubber parts in both are not in the same possition. The driver side is pushed up quite a bit and the pass is pushed down. The only thing i can think of is the power of the motor has moved the insides of the rubber mount. On the bottom of the driver side i can stick my finger in betwen the rubber and the mount and the other side i cant even see threw on the bottom. So with that said what mounts should i buy?

Re: Motor sits crooked!
I was talking with my brother and we had another theory. Did you bolt the mounts to the engine, then lower the engine in? or did you lower the engine in, then try to secure it to the mounts?
When we put my engine in, there was a certain amount of "spread" or "settle" that the mounts went through as the engine was lowered into the bay onto the perches and crossmember (66 w 71 xmember). If we had started the threat the bolts, or secure the mounts before the engine settled into the crossmember, I could see a chance there could be an issue like this. I can try to explain in more detail if that doesn't make sense.

Re: Motor sits crooked!
The rubber mounts never left the truck. We're in old motor. That would explains the low side maybe but still lost on the hi side. Need new ones now for sure.

Re: Motor sits crooked!
Those look ok, but spendy. I get the feeling the metal box would distort over time. Have you looked at prothane or energy suspension? They have factory style clamshell mounts-- available at your local auto parts store for much less than those on eBay...

Re: Motor sits crooked!
Ya I have looked at them. The ones I found only come with the insert not the hole mount. I am not sure how they fit in the clam shell. I don't want any room to slide around in the metal case.

Re: Motor sits crooked!
The ones I have used were TIGHT in there. The poly doesn't compress like the rubber does and therefore doesn't shift nearly as much...

Re: Motor sits crooked!
I looked on line and none of my parts stores carry them. I will probaly get the insert types not the really expensive ones.

Re: Motor sits crooked!
Well ended up ordering a set from summit with front end parts for the long bed. Got them installed and it is better now but not perfict. The new crossmember fits now but bearly clears. I am not sure if it is the mount plates or the frame but when i have the mounts bolted to the frame and the plates bolted to the motor the holes on the motor plates are almost a 1/2 inch wider then the holes in the mounts. I have to loosen eveything and start all the bolts and then drop the motor down and tighten all the bolts. I started it and reved the motor and it almost does not move at all. Nice and tight. I guess we will see if it breaks anything.
