Engine Cleaner.

I always used Seafoam but my local mechanic gave me a can of the GM TOP ENGINE CLEANER and told me to try it....i never heard of it before i would think it would be ok since its GM's product but how is this stuff? How do i use it

Used this years ago, didn't know they still made it. Here's the procedure we used; Start engine with air cleaner off. Start to trickle the Top Cleaner into the carb (you'll have to start revving the engine to avoid stalling). When you've got most of the can poured, pour the rest in quickly to stall out the engine. Let it sit for 30 minutes, drive your truck in the "blowing out the carbon" mode. You'll see a lot of smoke at first, that's the gunk the cleaner loosened up.

You can also suck it in through a vacuum line CAREFULLY with a raised idle, a smaller line controls the amount better. Also becareful of dumping too much at the end I have seen it bend rods before. It is a liquid and doesn't compress.

When I worked for the dealers it was always induced through a vacuum line.

Not a fan of seafoam, or any other harsh cleaner like that. Guess if it's a gummed up engine and it needs done then you don't have alot of choice (I prefer different methods). Once clean use a good oil with a good detergent additive package along with a good oil change regimen (UOA's are important), and use a good fuel cleaner additive (2 cycle engine oil or lucas gas additive, both act as a lubricant/cleaner and neither are corrosive like most other fuel additives) at every other fillup and you shouldn't have to worry about a gummed up engine again.
