Control Arm Bushing replacement
I've got a set of 73-87 upper & lower control arms I need to rebuild. Bought a set of Energy Suspension Poly bushings to replace the stockers. What's the easiest way for the DIY guy to tackle swapping these? Should I just melt the OEMs out to get started? Any tips and/or tricks would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

If you have an oxy cutting torch you can burn them out pretty easily. If you just have a propane blow torch it takes forever, I actually tried and it was just taking too long. I rented a control arm bushing remover/installer tool from autozone, it looks like a big c clamp. I had to get creative by making spacers so it would fit around all of the bushings but I got them all out with it.

Cut the rubber off with a hack saw up to the sleeve. Then use a big drill bit. Remove enough to pull out the rest of the rubber. Follow my pictures below. I started with a set of suburban a-arms.

Take them to a mechanic have him take them apart, can't imagine he would charge more than 20 bucks. On the other hand you could dedicate an entire day to screwing around with torches, hacksaws and explosives. I only say this because I was where you were and wasted a bunch of time doing what I ended up getting taken care of in 10 mins.

x2 on taking it to a shop with a press it only takes a few minutes and you will know your new bushings are in there straight and haven't been bent or hammered on.
