What kind of rear end do I have???
I have a 1970 C-20 shortie with a utility bed. Judging by the dark green around the emblems, door jambs, etc... This is an old phone company truck. I would like to know what the rear end may be... gear ratio etc??? The truck is a manual transmission and I'm not sure what the original engine would have been. The truck currently has an inline 6, but the fenders say 8/350 below the C-20 emblem.

Re: What kind of rear end do I have???
I would say you have the wrong emblems on your truck. All 1/2 tons were 6 lug thru 70. And no C-20 shortbeds were ever built. Your truck appears to be a 1/2 ton.

Re: What kind of rear end do I have???
Best "guess" on rear axle ratio is a 3:73 to 1.You can check the SPID in the glovebox for a option or since it looks like it's up in the air you can rotate the driveshaft and count wheel revolutions. One turn of the driveshaft should turn the wheel 3 times or almost 4. 3:08-3:73-4:11 are possibilities. The 3:73 would be standard with a manual. There is also a code stamped on the axle, pass side IIRC that will be a number that can be croossreferenced. You'll have to crawl under there and wir brush it well to see it.

Here's a thread on axle ratio count.

Re: What kind of rear end do I have???
Re. emblems. The paint that has peeled off is a different color than the truck's interior. More that likely fenders were damaged and swapped.
