Pre-bent exhaust system - any options?

For my '70 402 Longhorn restoration one non-stock alteration I'm going to indulge is either an aluminized or stainless exhaust system, ideally mandrel-bent.

I'd like to run Dynomax mufflers because I have a set on my other project and like the sound (quiet at idle and drone-free), so optimally I'd find a pre-bent pipe set and either discard the indluded mufflers or get a system without mufflers.

The only complete system I've found is one from LMC, but its not for the longhorn so would wind up too short for my truck anyway.

I could just haul it to a muffler shop, but I'd like smooth mandrel bends and don't know of any shops that can do that.

Does anyone know of a pre-bent kit?

Failing all of that, I could buy pipe and J and U bends and weld it up myself (I'm a novice, but can handle that much). If you've had any experience with a "make it yourself" kit that would fit our trucks, please let me know that as well!

Re: Pre-bent exhaust system - any options?

I used a 2-1/2" stainless pypes kit on my 68 and a 2-1/4" aluminized hooker system on my 69. Both of mine are shortbeds, but you could get some extra straight pieces and weld in.

There are a few shops around the Seattle area that can do mandrel bending, but it will cost you more than a pre made kit.

Re: Pre-bent exhaust system - any options?

I bought one from Lmc and it was a terrible fit( hung way to low!)My advise would be to save up a couple bucks and let A pro take care of it for you. Cheers, Pat

I used the cut and build yourself kit http://www.ebay.com/itm/390246153621...84.m1423.l2649
With THESE mufflers. You can see the details of it HERE.
I will probably end up going back and running the pipes all the way to rear of the truck. I dumped them in front of the axle because it was so tight around my adjustable panhard bar.
Good luck.

Re: Pre-bent exhaust system - any options?

I used a Flowmaster kit. It was a Flowmaster u-fit dual kit. Bought it through Jegs. You can get it in stainless. They have 2.25, 2.5 and 3 in. pipe. You will have to do some cutting and fitting, but i liked it alot. You can buy some 4 ft. length pipe to fill in if need be, as i did. I used up most of the system on my longbed. Just need a good sawzall. I also welded mine up, had some stainless wire laying around. Hope that helps.

I bought the Hooker kit from Summit. It had everything needed, except a couple of 90's. I put the mufflers close to the bed, above the trailing arms.

X2 on the Flowmaster kit, cheap too! I had enough left over to almost do another truck.

Re: Pre-bent exhaust system - any options?

I have the Magnaflow kit on my 68, it sounds wicked too. It hangs a little low but I might have a fix for that too. (move the location of the X pipe)
