Standard Melling BBC Oil Pumps

Has anyone had a problem with the standard M77 series BBC oil pumps. I've been reading about them snapping off near the mount. They thinned up the casting on them I heard.

Re: Standard Melling BBC Oil Pumps

Melling reportedly did that to all their standard series of pumps. The 'select' series is what we used to enjoy as the 'standard' (except for the new healthy price tag)

I've not bought Melling since the rumors started. It aggravated me to no end and I started buying Moroso and Titan pumps. Everyone has to pay the bills and raise prices to keep up with rising expenses / costs. That is 100% understandable. But this trend of selling us JUNK, in a smaller package, for more $, just chaffs my @$$

(sorry,,, rant off now)

Re: Standard Melling BBC Oil Pumps

I talked to my engine guy this morning after I posted. He said that its basically the sbc pumps that break. He hasn't seen or heard of a problem with the bbc pumps yet. He also looked at my pump and said it was fine. Better safe than sorry.

Re: Standard Melling BBC Oil Pumps

I had one break off and fall in the pan a few years back. I was runnin the old 638 wide open and having a tire shake problem. I got to the end of the track and the oil pressure was zero. Bent a brand new Callies crank ten thou becuase the rods slung all the oil out . My accusump saved the mains . Been running a Titan sportman (gerotor style) since then . My bearing problems went away . Say no to the Melling !
