Shift points and top speed for 250 3spd?

I don't have an owners manual and just wonder what is the recommended rpm/mph for each shift? Just from feel it seems about 10 mph and up it will pull 2nd gear.
Also top safe cruising speed? Safe as in not keeping the engine at an RPM it doesn't like for long periods. Did these things like going at 70mph back in the old days? Mine seems to be revving kind of fast just at 60.

You can start out in second gear if you need to. Shifting at 10-15mph is good.
They sound like they're revving high but at 70 it's probably around 3000 rpm. A lot of the rpm noise comes from the fan noise.
Drive it like you stole it!!!

Agree on the fan, the noise drives me crazy. I want an electric or clutched fan just because of that.

Yea, mine is the same way. 50-55 is about as fast as I will go. Just sounds like its spinning too fast. But, it may just be fan noise making it so bad. Need to pick up a cheap tach to know.

I added a cheap tach and yeh it's only going a little over 2k but it sounds much faster, I hear that fan more than the exhaust.
Have to do something about that fan and exhaust, make one louder and the other quieter

Re: Shift points and top speed for 250 3spd?

Before I added a tach and 5 speed, I'd hit 55-60 in 3rd and think the truck was spinning up pretty high. But as you discovered, it just sounds that way and the RPMs are not really as high as it sounds.

Now with the 230 tuned, suspension fixed, and the T5, I've hit 90 mph once going south down the freeway leaving VA and heading into NC. I am a little scared to go beyond that, and really don't have any reason too.
