Finally got a truck again
Found myself a 66 shorty. 250/3 on the column, converted to floor shift. Looks like it was a great back to stock restoration in the late 80's/ early 90's.
Runs and drives just fine, has a few little cosmetic issues and lighting issues i need to work out but other than that this thing is going back on the road for myself and others to enjoy. First pic is the what it looked like when I found it, seconds after i got it home and got all those years of soot and pine tree debris off of it. |

Re: Finally got a truck again
Yeah those were included, and a windshield seal which is already newer on the truck so I don't need that. It also came with door seals. Needed a fuel pump to get it home but it seems now all I need is a miracle to get the DMV on my side. The title has this thing as a 1968, VIN#s on the title and truck match and definitely correlate to a 1966 pickup truck, not to mention the appearance. But it's been that way for decades so it's going to take some effort to un-stupid this piece of paper.

Re: Finally got a truck again
Good score Brother! Did you keep those OSB bed boards? I think they were an option that year! Keep an eye out on the Virginia board. We are trying to have a get together. I have had some headaches with DMV they are not on your side MOST of the time. If your VIN matches but the year is off they caaaannn be good to work with trying to correct that issue. One of the guys at work got a clean title on a motorcycle when he had some titling issues. His original title was a salvage title. We all fell out when the inspector came out and issued him a clean title because the original insurance company's paperwork was skewed. Hope it works out for you!

Re: Finally got a truck again
is it my imagination, or does that truck have tinted glass? does it have A/C? Not too common to see tinted, I think, except in the hotter climates....was it even available in these trucks? I LOVE TO SEE SURVIVORS!!

Re: Finally got a truck again
The truck was restored decades ago I think and a real old photo was included in the sale of the completion of the restoration. I would assume the bed was redone at that time but after it was restored it must have been used as a daily or even an actual work truck cause the bed now has plywood in it but the tubs are in great shape though, it might get a new bed kit someday but that's the least of my worries. IM going to get the interior real clean and mostly original, give it an altitude adjustment and just put some miles on it for a while. That's the plan anyway but one thing always leads to another as we all know. I hope the truck can make it to some meets. I'd love to meet some contacts locally and find a good parts ring! I don't plan on buying many new cosmetic parts for it. I like the aged look.

Re: Finally got a truck again
Oh and yeah the front wondows have film tint, thats coming off. There is no AC, its a really simple truck.... it has power.... from the battery......and thats about it, if ya know what i mean. Its a tank to drive right now. Its the oldest truck I've had so far. It needs some modern drivability upgrades for sure.

Re: Finally got a truck again
The bumper says COMMUNITY CHEV. CO. on one side then, HAMMOND, LA. on the other. Definitely been on there quite some time. I've found out so far it was built in St. Louis and sold somewhere in Luisiana new.

Re: Finally got a truck again
It was not on craigslist. Actually 6 years ago when I got stationed here I saw it sitting parked backwards against the road and it had plastic advertising banners on the plywood that came in the bed in that first pic. It was for a car audio shop. Honestly all these years I've had my eye on it and planned to go in and talk to the owner when the time was right. So last week the thing was gone! but not very far away, it got moved across the street. Apparently his business was suffering from the economy, like many others and he had to close the doors. The guys across the street let him park it there and he just drew "for sale" on the window in window paint. I dont know how long it was there but it couldnt have been long. Apparently the time had come without me even thinking about it, I saw it, flipped a u-turn and bought it 3 days later.
