Thumbs up Finally Getting My Exhaust On My 71

After working on my truck for a year finally getting it to the exhaust shop this morning. Going with 2.5" aluminumized pipe with 40 series Flowmasters turned down behind the rear tires like a chevelle or camaro. The guy doing it is about the best in my area. He does all my work. Can't wait to pick it up the afternoon.

Re: Finally Getting My Exhaust On My 71

Good looking truck.
I just built my exhaust, using thrush welded mufflers(2 chamber flowmaster copies) I tan tail pipesout the rear.
Turndowns are very loud, but if that's what your wanting, I'm sure you'll like it.

How does turning the pipe down at the end make it louder that straight out?

Turning down points the exhaust at the ground. The sound bounces off the pavement and back up to the truck. Reverb effect.

A tail pipe out the back directs the sound away from the vehicle and its occupents making it not as loud.

The longer the pipe the quieter the exhaust will be.

I made a mistake reading his post, I thought he was getting turndowns in front of the tires.

Out the rear should not be as bad.

Mine are turning down behind the tires as well, I am using 2012 Camaro tips.

Re: Finally Getting My Exhaust On My 71

Thanks for the compliments! I will try and post a video but I have never done it before but I will try. The wheels are factory 6" on front and 8" steelies from Summit on the rear painted black with mid 70s-80s full size car dog dish caps. Tires are 215/70/15 on front and 255/70/15 on rear (They ain't cheap!). Suspension is 2 1/2 dropped spindles with 2" dropped springs on front and rear is 4" dropped leafs and a 2" lowering shackles on the rear. No C-notch but I'm abut 2" from hitting the rear end on the frame. The truck has a raked look when it is setting on level ground but I like it. Next is a front end alignment.

Lets hear them pipes!

Re: Finally Getting My Exhaust On My 71

The hub caps came from ebay. It is dual exhaust with no crossover pipe. Here is a couple pics of how I had the tailpipes ran and dumped and a pic of my personalized tag. I have a video I will try to post of how it sounds. Its from my phone so quality isn't the best.

Re: Finally Getting My Exhaust On My 71

I know this is an old post but this is exactly how I want to run my exhaust. Yours looks great by the way. I looked under my truck and it looks pretty tight where the turn down will be. Would you happen to get a couple of pics for me underneath the truck and where the mufflers are located and the exhaust and how it is run under the truck? I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
