leaky windshield

Hi folks,
I have been having this leaky windshield problem for some time. It only leaks while in motion so if I know its going to rain...I take the Jeep. Anyway enuff is enuff. I supect its getting in through the seal somewhere, either dripping from the top or getting forced up from the bottom. Could it also leak around the trim thats in the middle of the seal? How would I go about taking of the trim to check for cracks or splits or should I be looking somwhere else for the problem?

Thanks

Steve

I had a leaky window for many years on my truck. I tried to fix it myself but it never worked. I took the truck to a glass shop and they put sealer between the window frame and the gasket. I had the chrome strip in my original gasket. I asked the shop if it could leak around the strip, they said no. I have not had a problem since they fixed it, that was 7 years ago.

On the trim, my suggestion is to not try to remove it. The best way to remove trim from the seal is with the seal off. The trim hooks into the seal and with the seal in place it is difficult to remove the trim, but very easy to damage it.

I agree with cruzn72, a good glass shop is your best option. the windshields usually leak between the seal and the frame, not between the glass and the seal. The glass shops have a special applicator that they can inject a butyl like material into the seal at the frame joint. My glass shop did my windshield in less than 20 minutes.

If your frame is rusted out and causing the problem then the windshield should be pulled and repairs made in order to get the windshield to seal.
