1965 SWB BBW Build
As I've collected a few parts, I figured I'd start this as I'll need some help along the way. The frame has been powder coated (it ain't cheap) along with all the Porter Built parts. I'm having issues with this metal spindle "knob" behind the caliper mount rubbing on my lower a-arm.

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build
I bought a fuel tank from Boyd and it looks awesome! I can't wait to get it installed next weekend. I have a LS motor (LY6 / 4L80e) thats going in this truck. I'm concerned about fitment with the low hump trans tunnel.

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build
This is the truck I picked up in Indiana a few months ago. Factory auto, big back window and almost matches my current ride (turquoise one). I want to use the factory column with the 4L80e but am uncertain of how to modify for the 4spd auto.....
The twelve bolt rear diff is currently being rebuilt with 3.73s and a posi unit. |

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build
I bought a "entrophy" aluminum radiator with twin electric fans to keep the engine cool here in Texas. I hear nothing but good things about it, but I'll have to modify the mounts for it as this radiator is wider! More modifications!

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build
All the suspension parts are "loose" fit right now see what I'm missing and making sure I haven't installed anything incorrectly. I'll tighten everything down and install the fuel tank next weekend. Hopefully I'll have my rear diff back next week and the Wilwood rear brakes.

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build
Planning on running 20" wheels but have to measure for backspace. I like the Boyd Possesed wheels but they're kinda expensive...
-18x8 Wheels in the Front w/ 245/45/18 -20x12 Wheels in the Rear w/ 29x16x20 Mickey Thompson Sportsman Tires Anyone know the easiest way to measure backspace. I'm not buying two sets of wheels! |

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build
Did you measure and get a custom tank from Boyds? Does it sit high enough in the frame to safely work when you lay out? I'm really interested in getting one from Boyds, but I'm going to raise the bed floor so I want it to sit as high up in the frame as necessary.

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build
I looked and tried fitting from the top. I'm running the Porterbuilt replacement crossmembers on the truck and the tank will not fit. Look around for others that have done a Boyd tank and see if they've done this. Boyd can make a custom tank for you based off the measurements you give them. Good luck! I don't recall the price but I bought it on a group buy.

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build
I should clarify that the tank won't fit from the top but fits great from the bottom! I will recommend that you DON'T buy McGaughy rear disk brakes as they don't fit. I returned them and bought a set of Wilwood brakes instead.
Only had time this weekend to go through the suspension and ensure everything was tightend down. Also got the tank installed and have to call Jegs for the plumbing, filter and various connectors to get the fuel lines setup. I have to go and buy a drill bit to drill out the spindles to finish mounting the rack & pinion setup. |

Wow looking great. Do you have any pics of the tank installed from a side and/or rear angle?

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build
Work has been kicking m butt! I have the rear diff installed along with the brakes. I have to order the new brake lines and then figure ont the fuel setup. I should have the engine installed in a few weeks pending some extra hands to help. I'm also wating on the wheels to show up. I ordered a set of wheel vintiques 17x9 smoothies with caps and chrome rings. I think I'm going to run 275/50R17 (Nitto) and save the wide tires for my 64. I want to get this going for Power Tour!

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build
I picked up an A/C cab a few months ago that will be for a future project without any rust. Still had the chevy A/C sticker in the rear window.

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build
Found some pics of the truck before it was pulled out of the barn in Indiana. The only issue I've had so far is drilling all the holes for the rear air bags. Mainly a pain in the butt more than an issue as I hate measuring....lots of it. Not something you really want to do after a long day at work.
