Aftermarket speedometer on 700R4

I have a 700R4 transmission in my 64 C10 and I'd like to get an aftermarket speedometer in it, since the original doesn't work. How hard is it to hook one up and how do you go about it?

You can use your existing cable if it is long enough..There are many styles and vendors on gauges to choose from. I went with Bowtie Overdrives and gave them my ring gear ratio on my diff and tire size and order the right speedo gear and speedo adapter on my 700R4 (91)

Thanks for the replies. How do I tell when my transmission was made? It was in the truck when I bought it.

Re: Aftermarket speedometer on 700R4

It looks like I have a post-1992 transmission because it has a cable going into the connector on the passenger side like in the link above (although I don't know what it goes to). I guess it's a refurb because the plate doesn't have anything on it. It has a big "6" on the middle of the passenger side and "MD8" towards the front on the passenger side. It also has 8663548 on the driver's side.

It also has a square four pin connector on the driver's side. Does anyone know what that's for?
