Screw in Pivot ball

Does anyone have a pic of this. I know you need one when you switch from an inline to a 350 and I am in the process of doing this. Or do you know a part # for it so i don't get that blank look from the parts guy here Or is there a donor vehicle I could rob this off of??

Actually you are not looking for a screw in pivot ball if you are building a 2wd and are putting the small back in the correct v-8 position. The screw in is for 4x4's. You need one that sits on a flat plate bracket that bolts to the 2 bosses in the engine block designed for the cluch pivot ball. In addition, the bracket for the z-bar on the frame is different from the I6 as is the z-bar and clutch rod. Basically you need the entire setup from clutch to fork off a small block standard truck. Again, the big assumption is correct v8 position and 2wd.

I don't have part #'s but your best bet is to find another member who is parting such a beast.

Thanks for the info CPNE

The 350 is going in the I-6 position. I know that crazy longhorn has this same setup and informed me about the screw in type pivot ball. Just wondering if anyone can shed anymore light on this subject.

I only had a pic of BB one saved. I believe the SB v8 one is just flat with a similar pivot ball.

I dont have a pic Dubie, but if you look at the 73 up trucks with stick, I think you will find the pivot ball you need(screws into the bell housing). In I6 position, I ran the ball in the foward hole in the block, & shot the Z bar through the # 5 & 7 header tubes. The frame bracket had to be moved to get the z bar perpendicular to the block, & as CPNE mentioned, you need to use all the v8 clutch linkage(2 wd). Very minor mods were needed to set it up(bottom rod lenght, & possibly a slight bend on the top arm on the Z bar). Headman headers (69090) fit set up like this, & I believe the Hooker comps will also......my linkage is set up behind the #7 tube this time, & also has mods to the firewall,a custom top rod(with rod ends), & a different top arm on the Z bar for a straight shot from the peddle to the bell crank. 6 gears are fun good luck, crazyL

Hmm this might take a little jimmy riggin because I am using stock manilfolds. Once I have the engine and tranny back in, I should be able to get a better idea as to what I'm up against.

I would try a pivot ball and bellcrank for a 4x4. Should be real close to the V8 in 6 cylinder position. LMC has the pivot balls, and I am sure others do as well.

Ill 3rd that....I think the 4x4 V8 linkage will work for you. positioning will be different than the 2 wd pcs, so I would try to get all the pcs if you can crazyL

Yup

I have installed this setup in my 68. Using the 4X4 stud and Z bar the linkage lines up perfect. Did not have to relocate the frame mount. I did have to use ram horns - center drop - manifolds on both sides. You can see the pivot balls in the Truck Shop catalog, page 129. www.truckandcarshop.com good luck, Scott

Make sure you use a new pivot.I had one break on a 2-3rd shift years ago as I got onto the hiway.It let the Z-bar cotter pin hit the oil filter just enough to put a pinhole in it.Since the guages in that truck were junk I never knew it was leaking oil til it was too late.So make sure you have a good oil pressure guage too.

73 up on the trucks should work on the pivot ball(anything that didnt have hyd clutch). A lot of the 60s cars had the same screw in pivot ball, it should be 1/2 " 13 NC thread. Good luck, crazyL Im not sure I answered that properly Mrs dubie..... if you are looking for the 4x4 linkage, i would go for 67-72.....& try to get all the pcs,as you are swapping from a I6 to V8, & the pcs are different. 4wd, I have not been into, So I dont know how the pcs differ (as far as top/ bottom rods). Just my rotten luck, the yard here has never wrecked a 67-72 manual 4x4. I'm gonna post this on the parts board and see if we might have a board member that is selling these parts
