Door Opening Spec

Say, does anybody know of a spec for the driver and/or passenger door opening? I'm going to be doing some rather extensive floor replacement on my 72 C20 and would like to know how far apart to fix the pillars before welding in new floor/rockers. Mine had lots of shims in the door hinges, and its been "repaired" in the past, so I'm pretty certain whatever it is now ain't right.

Re: Door Opening Spec

If you indicate exactly where you want the measurement taken, I can go check on my '68.

Re: Door Opening Spec

Hmm. How about between the points shown in the attached pictures? Or am I overthinking this? Should I rely simply on hte LMC rockers to dictate the door openings at the bottoms?

Thanks.

Re: Door Opening Spec

You need to put the doors on before you weld those rockers in place. You also need to brace the cab front to back and side to side to prevent twisting. You can almost bet the farm that if you dont fit the rockers to the door your going to use on the truck the doors wont fit right with the new rockers.

Have to agree with this, mine endedup a little high towards the back of the cab, but I'm gonna take care of it when I replace my bottoms on my doors. I know kinda backwards way of doing it, but it's not that bad and is gonna be my daily driver and work truck. Figure I'll be doing it again a few years down the road!

Re: Door Opening Spec

Been following your build thread, Rob H. You took my thread title, though

I knew about hte front to back bracing, but hadn't considered the side to side bracing. Makes sense though. Putting the doors back on should be no big deal. Would a fella replace the floor before the rockers or the rockers before the floors or doesn't that really matter? (Deviating from the title of the thread, I know).

Re: Door Opening Spec

Once you have everything braced out get rid of all the cancer. While the rockers are off its a lot easier to deal with the floor. Then you will have good metal to weld the inner rockers to.

Re: Door Opening Spec

Given that after market repop parts are close at best everything needs to be pre fitted before final welding! And then its get creative to make it all fit nice. Have fun!

Re: Door Opening Spec

I think I can do that. Plus, I have some scrap 2x4's from some house projects for the "creative" part.... Just kidding.

Thanks.
