What is the best year 1955 to 1959?
I'm in the market for a 55 to 59 Chevy. As I understand there is a series 1 and a series 2. What is the most sought after trim of these year trucks in your opinion?
Thanks! |

The 55 2nd series to 57 are my favorite. The 58-59 are great trucks but the 4 headlight style is not quite as sharp & the value is less.

I own a 58 and like it, but i do think the 57 could be had with more bling when you add the hood spears and ornament. Also the V,s on the doors. Looks sharp

Re: What is the best year 1955 to 1959?
oh man, this again
why settle for 2 when you can have 4? more is better. 55-1st is a 47-54 with a nice bed. 55-2nd is a whole new body style. same truck from 55-2nd thru 59. changes to front sheet metal only. most sought after trim package? 55-58 cameo. next would be deluxe cab mainly extra ss trim around the windows. i'm partial to 58-59, could you tell?

Re: What is the best year 1955 to 1959?
55-56 in full dress with all the trim and options. After that I like 58-59 fleets. Partial since I own one I guess. After that whatever is in good condition and you can find/afford really.
Ive always been drawn to the different stuff and never really gone after the mainstream cars. I have a 55 dodge wagon an IH Travelall a 59 apache fleet, all three odd on different levels. But just go with what is the most appealing to your personall taste. Thats whats this crazy hobby is all about. The 57 is the one of truck of the bunch with its own grill and hood, (My pick) but you can't go wrong with any of them.... as long as it just has two head lights.....lol

Re: What is the best year 1955 to 1959?
I love it when this question surfaces. Inevitably the 58/59 owners comment that "four is superior to two". But at the end of the day, the 55/56/57 owners usually have no comment, because they know they have the best looking vehicles and they feel no need to debate the issue.

I have a 57, but I am kind of partial to a 55-6 GMC. If you spend a small fortune on rechroming the front end, they are really really nice.

Re: What is the best year 1955 to 1959?
I've got to stand with my 4 eyed friends....58-59. I really like the Fleetside boxes in these years the best though. I've owned ever year except a '57.
Maybe some day I'll own one of those as well. Like Meter Swinger says, buy what you like and can afford. Fix it up, make it yours and enjoy it.

Re: What is the best year 1955 to 1959?
Really folks this guy makes his first post and what does he do, trys to shove a stick in a hornest nest. If he doesn't know the difference or options between the 1955 through 1959 models then maybe he shouldn't buy one. If he is serious about purchasing one, research and knowledge is the key and primarily taste of the owner not of the crowd, just my opinon!

Re: What is the best year 1955 to 1959?
Whatever one you own is the best one. The 55-57 have proven more popular through the years. As a youngster I loved the eggcrate grille of 55-56 but today it just looks plain to me. I'm a big fan of the Cameo truck but GMC trucks could be had with more options and more color combinations than the Chevy.

Re: What is the best year 1955 to 1959?
1project2many has a good point. There will always be a large demand for the 55-57s and it probably won't ever go down, but I think a lot of people are wanting to move to weirder stuff, ie vans, station wagons, panels, and wilder looking trucks, which the 58-59 are a part of

Re: What is the best year 1955 to 1959?
As long as its 55-59, it's all good to me. I have both 2 and 4 eyed trucks. Each one is special to me in some way. Now if I can just get one of every model......

Re: What is the best year 1955 to 1959?
I have a 57 but if i ever build another i would try a 58 gmc like this other members truck which is pretty awesome looking.I'm a fan of single lights but that 58 was done right so it looks alot better then a stock 58

Re: What is the best year 1955 to 1959?
The Cameo was replaced with the short wide fleetside. In mid '58 a stainless bed trim was offered that framed the bed spears. These are actually rarer than the Cameo's and as such, much sought after by some commanding a couple grand for just the trim in pristine condition.
I'm working on this one right now, Terry |

Re: What is the best year 1955 to 1959?
My answer .... don't own it anymore but still love it. Still found at the cruise and shows there were lots of 55-57 but the 58 - 59 were not as common.
When I first bought mine I did check into changing the front end But I'm glad I didn't. Ogre I would loce to have a picture of our two trucks together! yes I know it's a picture from the future.
