rear window install

i have a 1968 chev truck and i want to change the rear window and wondering any tips or tricks to removing and installing the back window its the big back window not a slider window thank you very much

Check the faq section, I think there is a thread there. For installation it's a nice flat window so it won't be too hard. Make sure your lip (in the truck) is clean. Get yourself some paracord and dishsoap. Put your gasket on the window and be sure to line it up paying very close attention to the corners. Tape the gasket to the window if you need to but be careful to keep the tape to the inside edge (towards the middle of the window) so it won't interfere. Lube the paracord with the soap. Get it good and slippery. Now lay it in the lip of the gasket that will be touching the lip of the window opening. Most people start with the cord in the middle (about 18" sticking out) and run the cord all the way around to where you started. You will have the two ends sticking out at the bottom in the middle of the window. Carefully set the window in the opening fitting the bottom edge in first. With one person on the outside and another on the inside...the person in the inside with start pulling on the paracord while the outside person aplies light pressure in the same area. Work slowly around the edge rolling the lip into place as you pull the cord out of the lip. The key is the dish soap, paracord and light pressure on the outside. Bugger to clean up but it works great. This is a great window to learn on if you have never done this before. Good luck!

This might sound real stupid however. If you go on iTunes and search for "Season 2006 TRUCKS! Episode: Project Old School pt. 6 They show a very easy way to install a windshield and rear glass into an older vehicle. (I know brings back memories)

Most hardware stores, outdoor gear stores will carry it. It is the type of cord similar to what is used to rig parachutes (that what I was told). Should be easy to find. It looks like a cheap shoe lace but is very very strong. I use it for all kinds of jobs. I have hoisted 200+ lbs with it.

Any kind of nylon cord will work. Heck, I think I used clothesline the last time. I use some liquid dish detergent for lube.

Back windows are EASY! Have fun.

I put my small back window in last week with paracord and a light coat of vasoline, And the install is just like RexDodge said.

paid someone to do just what the others are saying a few years back. Now, I'd knock it out in no time if I had to. Just take you time and use a quality gasket. Back is no problem, the front is the challenge to keep the wrinkles out.

Like all the other guys said - use a piece of rope and make sure the pinch weld and gasket are soaked with soapy water. Mix some dish soap & water up in a spray bottle. Have someone in the bed hold the window flat in place w/o any sides or corners started but flush & flat and pull the rope from the inside and the window will slide in place. If you have the chrome trim install that in the gasket prior to puutting the window in.
