1964 c10 with 1971 5 lug suspension
I have been trying decide which set up to use on my 1964 Chevy c10.
I would like disc brakes with a drop spindle in the front with maybe lowered coil springs and a 17" or 18" wheel. Options include complete kit for 64 from cpp or performance online, or put a complete 71 front end under the 64 truck. For the rear I could change axles to make it 5 lug - or put a wider rear end from the 71 mentioned earlier under the 64 truck. I would like to run at least an 18" wheel on the rear. I would even have the choice of rear ends with 3.73 or 3.08 - I have a turbo 350 transmission. Thanks for any help.......... |

If I were You I wold get the drop spindles for a 64 from cpp and find out from them what year rotter and caliper you can use. I think they work with a 71 caliper I know they do for sure with a 77. I put an entire front cross member from a 77 on my 62 and it was hole lot of work.

Re: 1964 c10 with 1971 5 lug suspension
Going with a complete '71 front suspension really isn't going to gain you much if you are wanting dropped spindles. All you will be using is the rotors and calipers, and the steering linkage......if they are in useable condition. Are you also going to convert to PS? Is the steering box included in the '71 parts? I would say it depends on how much you have to pay for the '71 parts. You can also do as forestb mentioned and just buy the spindles you want, and buy the rest of the parts at your local auto parts supplier.

Re: 1964 c10 with 1971 5 lug suspension
Thanks for the information. The 71 does not come with power steering set up. I'm sure I am going with rear axles from CPP and convert 6 lug drum to 5 lug. As far as the front I will do drop spindles and disc brake kit or like you stated captainfab just buy the parts from our local parts supplier.
Have you ran into any problems with 2.5 drop spindles 3" springs in the front with 17" wheels? Along with 4" springs and 2" blocks on the back with 18x9.5 wheels? Posted via Mobile Device |

You will be money ahead by doing the DS/springs and axles/springs/blocks.
Here is why, time to locate/referb the 71/72 stuff, paint, install, blah, blah. less headache just getting new and running from there.

you can save your self a lil cash instead of buying new axles take them out and go to your local machine shop tell them the lug pattern you want thats what i did wasn't but $30 per axle so $60 bucks is cheaper than $400 with shiping for the new ones
