Replacing transmission

Hey, I have a 1972 GMC Jimmy, and its gonna need a new transmission real soon. Its just got the standard three speed auto. I can't do the job myself because living in a dorm I don't have access to a garage, and was just wanting to know if anyone had suggestions on how much I should pay and any other tips that might be helpful. Thanks.

If you really want do it yourself you don't need a garage. Just some tools, a jack, and some ramps or jackstands. Oh yeah and a mudhole to lay in (J/K!) I've swapped trannies in a parking lot (but I was in a bind!).

BTW welcome to the board from soggy, soaking wet raining again South Mississippi!
