Another New Guy...
Hey all my name is Jake from up in the mountains in East Tennessee. Long time lurker here. I have been looking around for a first gen K5 for a while and finally found what I was looking for about a month ago. I picked up this 71 Jimmy (350, th350, 4wd) from a guy in Knoxville who just wanted rid of it because it didn't run. It had been sitting in his back yard since '95 apparently. A new tank with some fresh gas, a carb rebuild, and a few cans of Sea Foam was all it took to get it running pretty smoothly.
The PO had told me that the guy that owned it before him had restored it (I'm assuming some time in the 80s..?) so it wasn't completely destroyed like most of the Blazers around here, but the rust monster has still got a hold of it and will need some addressing. All and all though I'm pretty happy with it. It's hard to find these trucks around here that haven't been completely eat out with rust or beat to death out in the woods. I'm excited to really tear into things here within the next few months and see what I can come up with. Just wanted to check in and say hey to everybody. I look forward to learning some more from everybody on here...seems to be a lot of great people and great info. I'm also on silveradoss.com with the same username...I know there are a couple guys on here from there but not sure who... Anyways, here's some pics ...and one with my dd. '06 gmc vortec max. oh how i'd love to have a lq9 in the jimmy... |

Re: Another New Guy...
Thanks! I'll have to take some interior pics today. It's gonna need some attention as well...probably more than the exterior. The original bucket seats up front have been recovered with some saddle vinyl that screams 80s. I've got the gauge cluster out right now repainting it. I'll see if i cant take some pics this afternoon.

I will be watching to see what you do with it. Keep us posted.

Welcome Jake, you'll get lots of enjoyment and information on this site. Just got home from visiting family living in Clinton, just outside of Oak Ridge. Beautiful area.

Re: Another New Guy...
Finally got some time to get out and play a little with the Jimmy over the past month or so. Naturally, I had to take some pics and show her off. Got to take the top off for about 2 weeks but the colder weather is starting to creep back in so the top is back on for the winter. Went up in the mountains yesterday and spent the day riding some old dirt roads. Had an absolute blast. Here's some pics.
