Stepside bed

Hey guys - I need a stepside for my truck (well, a bed in general, I have none) and I know fleetside shorties are hard to come by... what's the differences between the 60-66 and the 67-72 stepsides? They look a little different in the fenders, but do they bolt on the same? I am finding 73-88 steps all over the place but no 67-72's worth my time. This one I found is in great condition with new bed wood for $750 and 30 miles from me. What do you guys think? I know mixing and matching body styles isn't the most popular thing to do, but you gotta go with what you can find on a budget!

Re: Stepside bed

If that's all you need to get it going, snag it and watch for the guy who has a 62-66 with a 67-72 bed and trade.

Re: Stepside bed

Yea I'm not a fan of that stepside, I personally would go for the fleet for a 73-87 before the newer step. I'd prefer to find something in the same body style but like I said budgets and availability...

I'm guessing though that the 60-66 would bolt on just fine and the light harness would probably plug right in.

Re: Stepside bed

Don't do it. I had that bed, sure they bolt up the same...kind of...but the lines don't match up, and there are noticeable gaps between the bed and cab, and wheel openings don't match.

Re: Stepside bed

I must say the 60's bed looks better than the one I have but I still wouldnt buy one to put on.

Ive been praying for the day my correct bed is done but I still need alot of clean up work and bed strips, wood, rear harness, trunions and all the bolts yet.

I'm gonna have the one on my truck made into a trailer

that bed in the link looks to be a great deal

You need to snag that! Looks like a great deal. A decent set of fenders can sometimes be $3-400 bucks.

That's one of those things you take off work for because it will be gone!

Re: Stepside bed

Looks like one of the members here has a stepside that's just across the river from me, much better than driving most of the way to Canada, and it's in much better condition! From the pics he sent my truck may not be worthy! LOL!
