72 Light Switch Removal
My 72 Cheyenne Super has a really crappy dash pad covered by a velcro-held-on piece of carpet. Uuugggh!!!! (Don't blame me, it came to me this way)
So I bought an aftermarket dash pad in the correct blue. I removed the glove box and door. Now to remove the instrument cluster so I can reach the dash pad nuts from both sides of the cab. Remove all the screws...NUTS!!! I cannot get the light or wiper switch out. I look in the Service Manual and it says to remove the light switch rod and bezel. But, how??? Also, it says to remove the wiper knob and bezel nut...again, how??? So the $25,000 question for today is..how do you remove the switches??? Thanks for any and all assistance! |

Re: 72 Light Switch Removal
There is a small button you press on the top/backside of the light switch, press it and the knob will release.I use a pair of mini needlenose{90 degree}to loosen the nut.A very small slotted screw holds the wiper knob on then use the needlenose to back the nut off.Use finesse with the light switch till you find the sweet spot.

Re: 72 Light Switch Removal
If you don't have them, there are several reference materials every owner should have. Reprints are fine both Disc and paper have their place as well.
Model Year Specific Owners Manual Factory Chassis Service Manual Factory Chassis Overhaul Manual Sales Brochure is also nice for those little "what was what" questions/

Re: 72 Light Switch Removal
This is the one I have. http://www.themotorbookstore.com/19ch10setrse.html
It has a lot of information in it but it seems every time I need some specific information, it doesn't have it (hence the reason for this thread). I'm not sure what SS Tim has, but I would try to find something better than what I have. |
