4X4 quick question please help ...
Hey everyone! I want to say thanks on all the previous information you have provided. I have a 1996 Chev. Tahoe 4X4. I recently installed a new transmission (based upon your suggestions). Since the new transmission was installed my four wheel drive light on my shifter (it is electronic) keeps blinking. I would assume that the problem would be the actuator. I have had to replace that before (because of the same problem). However this time, I replaced the actuator and the light keeps on blinking. I can hear the transfer case kick in and engage the four wheel drive (high and low), however I dont think the thing is locking in (because of the blinking light). I took it back to the trans. shop and they said they did nothing to affect the locking in on the front hub. What I am asking is this: Will changing the tranny out effect the engagement of the ft. hub? Is there anything they can forget to plug in? I checked the voltage into the actuator and nothing...ever.... I also checked all my fuses. All are ok. Please advise.......

With the light flashing, that means that there should be a code stored in memory. I think Autozone will pull codes for you (if they are not too busy). Or maybe you know someone with a snap-on or other code reader, but that should be able to tell you exactly what is wrong.

Im in Ardmore Oklahoma. Im still at a loss........ I pulled up codes and all that was wrong was a slow o2 sensor. I had them clear that and the light is still blinking. Any suggestions?

I wonder if the actuator or linkage can be adjusted. I dont know what kind of actuator a 96 has so sorry if this sounds wacky.
The old vacuum types on S10s could be adjusted with the cable.

there is an encoder on the side of the transfer case check to see if it is plugged in.if it is the codes are stored in the body control module auto zone would probbaly not be able to pull those codes.

HEY
Thanks for the reply. Can you let me know which side of the transfer case and what it looks like? I see lots of wires that plug in and out.

Thought
I wonder if I can just run some power to the acutator to engage it? I could wire it into a toggle switch. What are your thoughts (everyone).

the encoder is on the left side it looks like a little motor this is what shifts the transfer case .i would not jumper any wires you can cause a lot of damage.i wish you were close i'd fix it for you i worked for a gm dealership for 11 yrs. before i opened my own garage and upholstry shop.

My thought less is better, hammer and crow bar and it'll never blink again!
