Need a Radiator for my 65

Not sure how many cores but just last week I got a 66 c20 radiator replacement for $210 from Napa. It fits okay & looks good. Then I saw aluminum radiators from a place that I think makes them in the inland empire craigs list under parts for about the same price. I got the preferred customer discount from napa.

Six banger and v8 ones are different sizes and mount different.
Most suppliers don't sell the six banger one.

I like brass in our trucks. Here's my spiel if you want a new radiator. I went through this in a panic a few months ago. Radiator shop couldn't get
new core to fix my old one. Radiator shop wanted $500 for a "custom"
manufactured replacement radiator. No thanks. Radiators on E bay were $225,
but were aluminum from China. No thanks. I found a new copper/brass three
row radiator for $186.79 from Rock Auto (www.rockauto.com) supplied by
Proliance, made in Mexico. Ended up $207 with shipping. The radiator has
connections for auto tranny cooler that I didn't need and was slightly larger on
the outlet then my original (1.75" vs. 1.5"). I am well satisfied. One note
on measurements that I learned is that they don't include the tank. You need
to add the tanks to get overall dimensions. Here is the info from the
Proliance site and the part number for it:

Don't know if your old radiator is copper or not but be sure to take it to the nearest metal scrap yard to get some of your money back. Here copper is worth over $2 a lb. glad I didn't trash my old copper heater core either

I vote champion aswell, got one in my truck and keeps her cool and never had a problem, has provisions for tranny lines too.

I came on here a few months back with the same question you have, my 60 apache's radiator was crapping out, it has a beefed up 350 with about 415hp and I just installed me a Champion radiator about 2 weeks ago, with shipping it was $162, came with cap too, easy to install


I have ext trans cooler, fyi.

Does anybody know if there is a difference for replacement radiators, for use with a 6cyl. I like the aluminum one you are talking about bigdlb12.

If the v-8 is the only one use and it figure out the hose routing.. As the champion really was a spot on fit.. Here is the side by side from stock to theres. It was one of the few things I did not have to work on to fit right.

The stat will control the heat in the engine, and you will never have a issue with over heating..

I am a pretty extreme SBC for the street and thus far I have had it in 87 temps and letting it idle with a 180 stat it hits 180 and holds solid

Brass/copper will cool better, and they can be repaired. The aluminum ones are a real bargain, but if it ever starts leaking, chances are you'll be taking it to the recycler and getting a new one. They are a great price though, and the Champions fit surprisingly well.

my old radiator was the original that came in my truck when it had the v6

even with the beefed up 350, it was still doing ok, but it finally gave out and started leaking

I'd go with the champion aluminum radiator. Mine fit perfect and cools great. I tried the spectre brand and after the third one leaking I gave up and ordered the champion off ebay. I think they look great also. There are plenty of articles on which one cools better so I won't get into that. My own experience aluminum cooled better.

Also the Champions are warranted for life, I just had one with a pin hole at a weld ( I have had it 5 years+) and I sent it back to them, they sent me a new one, free!
